  • Steph is as good as ever; Curry has found his MVP form.

Steph Curry is scoring as or more efficiently this year as BOTH of his MVP seasons in the following play-types: P&R Ball-Handler, Spot Up, Hand Off, ISO, Cuts, Runners, Near-Basket (non Post-Ups) and Overall Offense

That would be *every* play-type visualized above, other than Off-Screen and C&S situations, where Steph’s 1.128 PPP and 1.299 PPP rate slightly behind his prior MVP levels.

20–21 data as of 02/19/21; via Synergy

Steph Curry’s averages over the years:

14–15 MVP
24pts–4reb–8ast-2stl
49–44–91 on 8 3PA
6.4 Pull-Up 3PA on 43.8% 3P%

15–16 MVP
30pts-5reb-7ast-2stl
50–45–91 on 11 3PA
4.5 Pull-Up 3PA on 42.3% 3P%

20–21 season
30pts-5reb-6ast-1stl
49–42–94 on 12 3PA
6.6 Pull-Up 3PA on 41.4% 3P%

Chef Curry is back in the kitchen.

  • Invest in Dame Dolla MVP stock. The Lillard P&R Remains Lethal.

Missing his costars, Damian Lillard has led the Blazers to an 18–10 record, piling up the third-most P&R possessions in the league with 398. Lillard’s 1.053 PPP as the P&R Ball-handler ranks first among players with three hundred possessions, and ranks sixth among players with one hundred possessions.

Dame Dolla’s spot-up jumper is cash-money, scoring 1.476 PPP, the 10th-best rate in the league, via Synergy. Lillard also backs up his reputation as an all-around scorer with ISO and off-screen play-types the league’s 80th percentile, with 1.094 ISO PPP and 1.179 Off-Screen PPP, respectively. Dame ranks 9th in overall half-court PPP with 1.088 PPP among players with 400+ possessions, via Synergy.

  • Zion Williamson’s 1.153 PPP in Overall Half-Court Scoring ranks 2nd in the NBA behind only Steph Curry (among players with 400+ poss)

First-time All-Star Zion Williamson rates “very good” or “excellent” in every Synergy play-type except for 78 Spot-Up situations and 18 Hand Off possessions. So in Post-Ups, Transition, Cut, ISO, Putbacks, P&R Roll-Handler, and P&R Roll-Man, Zion is scoring over 1.0 PPP. He’s a pocket knife, he’s capable of scoring in any role, and if he gets a head of steam, just make the business decision and get out of the way.

His 1.159 ISO PPP rates in the 87th percentile, his 1.356 Putbacks PPP rates in the 83rd percentile, and his 1.143 PPP as a P&R Ball Handler rates in the 93rd percentile; Zion needs the ball in his hands as often as possible. He’s a peacock, Stan Van, you gotta let him fly.
